Fluorometers specialist Turner Designs has expanded the range of its C-sense in situ pCO2 Sensor

C-sense, a compact, lightweight pCO2 sensor for measuring the partial pressure of gas in water monitor pCO2 levels in various water types, said the California-based company.  C-sense is

configured to a specific detection range that can be selected at the time of purchase.

In May, it launched an expanded range that includes 1,000ppm, 2,000ppm, 4,000ppm, 10,000ppm, 20,000ppm, and 100,000ppm, all claimed to have 3-percent accuracy of full-scale.

Small (<2” x 8”; 5cm x 20.3cm) and lightweight  (<1lb; 0.5 kg) with low power requirements (6-12V DC, 80mA @ 6VDC) and a simple four-pin analog output, C-sense is designed to easily integrate with monitoring systems at a significantly lower price than traditional submersible pCO2 sensors, the company said in a press release.

A submersible logger with internal battery was developed specifically for C-sense by Precision Measurement Engineering (http://pme.com/products/c-sense-logger) providing users with enough resources to deploy as deep as 600m for long periods of time.

“Continuous monitoring of pCO2 levels is very important for an optimal aquaculture operation as high CO2 levels have been associated with slow growth in finfish and inhibiting biomineralization of calcium carbonate in shellfish,” it added.
