Women in North American Aquaculture Summit, or WINAAS, aims to understand the road to equal opportunity in the industry. This live virtual event welcomes men and women in North American aquaculture to tackle solutions for equal pay, entrepreneurship, innovation, training and mentorship.

What do North American women in aquaculture and global music superstar Rihanna have in common? For one, all are thriving in industries dominated by men in leadership. Join Julie Kuchepatov, founder of Seafood and Gender Equality, to hear more as we kick off the Women in North American Aquaculture live virtual summit. She will be sharing insights into the challenges women in the aquaculture sector face and how they compare to those experienced by the inspiring music sensation, Rihanna.

By the end of the event, we'll understand the unique barriers women in the sector face, hear many uplifting stories, and learn some solutions that will give us all the courage to, as Rihanna sings, "Shine bright like a diamond”.

Women who have been mentored describe the experience and the skills they acquired as essential toolkits for their professional lives. Our panelists will answer the questions of finding aquaculture jobs, recruiting interns, and finding career mentors.

This discussion will highlight the current status of DEI in aquaculture and identify impactful approaches that could advance diversity, equity and inclusion as we continue to strive for a more sustainable seafood fishery.

There will be a 15 minute break between live sessions.
