Dr. Gary Marty talks about his long career as one of British Columbia’s senior fish pathologists, his passion for communicating the science of fish health, and his quest to separate fact from fiction when it comes to fish diseases.
Dr. Gary Marty is a board-certified veterinary pathologist with a master’s degree in Fisheries Biology and a Ph.D. in Comparative Pathology. For the past 19 years he worked as a diagnostic fish pathologist for British Columbia’s provincial Animal Health Centre. In June 2023, he transitioned to a new role as a Senior Fish Pathology Consultant, providing fish pathology expertise in communications, teaching, diagnostics, and research. He has appointments as a research associate at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, and as adjunct faculty at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan.
